Need advice about Nissan Maxima Car?!

I am in the market for a used car and have been looking at brands I've heard are reliable (Honda and Toyota). I came across a 2005 Nissan Maxima with 170k miles. It is really nice and has all of the features. My question is are Nissans good, reliable cars that could be compared to Honda or Toyota? Does anyone know how high their mileage can get before you start excpieriencing problems, like is 170k too much? I've read some reviews where people say the transmissions suck but others say they've never had a problem. I just don't have much excpieriencing with the brand so if anyone has any advice let me know! Thanks!
