The engine on my 2009 honda civic blew and mechanic advised it could be upwards of 3,500 to repair?

mechanic advised it could be upwards of 3,500 to repair and said that it wasnt worth it to repair engine. However i still owe approx. $7000 on finance loan. What are my options my job requires me to have vehicle for work!
