What were they thinking when they redesigned the Accord for 2006?

I liked the looks of the tail lights on the 2003-2005 model, but for the 2006 (the 30th anniversary for the Accord) they made it look like an old Crown Vic in the back with the triangular tail lights. Doesn't make sense to me why they just randomly decided to give the Accord a Crown Vic/Chevy Impala look, especially for the 30th anniversary edition. The design doesn't work for the car at all.it went from being a somewhat stylish midsize Japanese car to some big old American car (in the rear). Very un-Honda of them. What were they thinking?
