Learning the basics of cars, and advice on how to pick out a second hand car?

So I'm a 17 year old highschool student who drives and in time wants to get his own car, most likely second-hand. At the time now though after passing the permit test and my driving test I still don't know much about cars (I know a little bit like things like a v-8 engine and what not), Is there a website or maybe a series of videos on youtube or something that explain the basics and specs of a car because I really have started getting into cars and know nothing about them besides like top brand names.

Also I is there anything or any good advice I should know when picking out a second hand car and the price? I would really like to know any so I know what I'm doing when it comes to finding the right car for me (I currently like toyotas, hondas, and subarus)
