Replacing Car Battery for 1996 Honda Civic?

My car (1996 Honda Civic LX 4-Door Sedan) had stopped running recently, so I took the old battery out and got a new one. When I plug the second plug into the battery, its alarm goes off, and it won't stop unless I unplug it, which is what I am forced to do. Can somebody help? How do I put the new battery in without triggering the alarm?
