Trying to find a right motorcycle?

I am looking to get a motorcycle to ride around my college and go home (about 2 hours away) a couple time a month. I was thinking a kawasaki ninja 250r. Is a honda CBR600RR to much for a beginner. Or a suzuki GS500 what. Is the best bike for me. How much should i be looking to pay for my first bike. What should i be looking for.
