Honda Civic EP2 Jerky Start?

I've just bought my first car, an 2005 Honda Civic Sport.
I haven't drove the car yet, but my Dad has and when I am inside it with him, the car,moving at a slow speed, especially when pulling off, is slightly jerky?
I have been told its just because the clutch is different, and needs time to get used to, but coming from someone who has drove for 30+ years, could it be something else?
