Can I hook up subs to an older stereo?

I have a 2005 Honda civic LX special edition, I was wondering since it has an upgraded 6 disc stereo stock, that it wouldhbe able to hook up subwoofers. Just wondering before Igo through the headache of taking it out. Thank you!
