Regarding pipe sizes and welding a cherry bomb?

Forgive me if I seem idiotic in the field of automobiles/cars/etc, as I will admit I know close to nothing about cars. I'm having a mechanic weld a cherry bomb to my 2002 Honda Civic LX, which has an exhaust pipe size of 1.75". Before I have him weld something too large or too small, I want to do some research so I don't screw things up. I understand that I need an adapter to go onto the exhaust, and one to go on the cherry bomb. Unfortunately, the smallest cherry bomb I could find had an inlet of 1.875". If I were to get an 2" adapter, have the mechanic weld it onto the exhaust, would it be too big? After that, would I be able to have the 1.875" cherry bomb inlet welded inside the 2" adapter, and would it fit fairly snug? I'm sure I'm not making much sense, and if I need to explain don't hesitate to tell me, but I'd really like to know if I'd be able to install this cherry bomb. Thanks.
