I was rear-ended and the police found the person who hit me at fault. There insurance company contacted me and told me to bring the car to their autoshop. They called me and told me the damages cost over $6K and the car is only worth $4k (Kelly Blue Book confirms this) so they'll give me a check for $4k and junk the car. They say they took the car apart and can't put it together. After the accident my car drove fine except a big dent in bumper. They say it caused structural damage and dented where the spare tire in the back goes. My 2003 Honda Element ran well and was reliable I will not find a reliable car as such for $4k this is unfair. What can I do? I don't have lots of money for a lawyer. I'm out of a car right now and using a rental they gave me. Thanks.
Added (1). How am I fairly compensated? I had a great car that ran well. Where am I going to get a great car for $4,000? It was better to keep my car with big dent that ran well even after the accident then they say they can't put it together and scrap it.
Added (2). Thank you g I didn't accept the offer so I asked them put my car back together and I'll keep it and they said they can't put it back together after they took it apart now.
Added (3). I paid over $20K for the car in 2003. Is better to just keep it as is if I can get them to put it back together.
