The water pump is driven by the alternator belt so timing isn't an issue. I searched extensively online and every source that is specific to this model doesn't require the timing belt cover to be removed. However, there is a small lip from the timing belt cover that goes over the water pump. Here is a pretty accurate diagram of my engine:
The diagram doesn't show the lip I was talking about. The only way I can think to take it off is to slide it right towards the alternator but the problem is that one of the mounting holes (the right most hole) is part of the alternator belt tensioner system. The belt is tightened by loosening a pivot point bolt on the bottom of the alternator and tightening or loosening a bolt on the top controls the tension.
here is a diagram to better frame my problem:
If you look at the diagram the bolt labeled the alternator bolt (This tightens onto one of the waterpump holes) , on my vehicle this bolt is exciting from the water pump and a nut tightens the mount here. I know that may sound confusing but instead of having an alternator bolt, as shown in diagram 2, I have a nut that attaches to a bolt. The bolt cannot be removed from the back side.
I can't slide the pump right with this bolt. Any ideas?
